This upcoming Friday May 13th 2011, Smallville will bow out of TV with a special two hours finale, that concludes the journey of young Clark Kent into Superman. After a remarkable 10 seasons, which very few shows reach that tv landmark, Smallville will say goodbye to TV viewers, in its series finale which will feature the appearance of Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor), who left the show at the end of season 7.
On Tuesday, October 16th 2001, Smallville first premiered at 9:00 PM on the network that defined a generation, The WB. This television series, developed by writers/producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, based on the DC Comics character Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, became an instant hit for The WB. breaking the record for highest rated debut for The WB, with 8.4 million viewers tuning in for its pilot, previously held by the premiere of the pilot of the supernatural drama Charmed in 1998 (7.7 million viewers).
Thanks to its loyal fanbase, Smallville survived many timeslot changes during its run, plus the famous merging of The WB and UPN into The CW. Shot in Vancouver, Canada, the cast included Tom Welling as Clark Kent, Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor, Allison Mack as Chloe Sullivan, Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lang, Erica Durance as Lois Lane, John Schneider as Jonathan Kent, Annette O’Toole as Martha Kent, John Glover as Lionel Luthor, plus Aaron Ashmore (Jimmy Olsen), Jensen Ackles (Jason Teague), Eric Johnson (Whitney Fordman), Laura Vandervoort (Kara), Justin Hartley (Oliver Queen), Sam Witwer (Davis Bloome), Sam Jones III (Pete Ross), Cassidy Freeman (Tess Mercer), and Callum Blue (Zod) during its ten years run. Even former Superman Christopher Reeve appeared on the show. The show ran on The WB, from 2001 to 2006, and on The CW, from 2006 to 2011.
On May 19, 2010, it was announced that Smallville would end its run after the tenth season. May 13th 2011 will mark the end of an era for the loyal fans of Smallville.
