Since it is summer in the US and Glee is on hiatus until they start season 3, the news about the show are still coming in: the tour, the Glee Project on Oxygen, new writers for the show, who’s graduating next season and more.
Here are some of the Glee Summer News 2011.
Update July 15th:
- Idina Menzel will return to Glee next season for a major arc that could span as many as 10-12 episodes. The Tony Award winner is in final negotiations to return to Glee for the upcoming third season to reprise her role as Shelby Corcoran (Rachel Berry´s biological mother, former coach of New Direction’s rival glee club Vocal Adrenaline and also she adopted Quinn and Puck’s baby girl). Next season will see Shelby returning from New York to Ohio to join William McKinley High School as a new teacher and complicating things for Rachel as well as former flame Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison). “I’m really excited the that Idina is joining the family again,” said Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy. “We missed her last year and we’re happy that she is coming back.” Source. This new adition for next season could be interesting since her character has many storylines with many regular characters on the show like Rachel, Mr. Schue, Quinn and Puck. Hopefully it can give some continuity to many storylines left in the open that where forgotten on season 2.

Murphy added that planning for the future beyond high school will be a heavy theme during Season 3, noting that “more characters are leaving than are staying” when graduation time comes at the season’s end. Source I loved the first season of Glee, the second not so much, anyway I kept watching because I love the characters we met in the beginning (the 8 original Glee club members). However I probably won’t keep watching after they graduate. How about you?

Update July 4th:
Fans are campaigning to keep Chord Overstreet’s Sam Evans on Glee. Since TV Line reported that Chord Overstreet was not signed as a cast regular for season 3, many Glee fans have been campaigning to keep his character on the show. Signs of the support Overstreet is getting from fans are over 3 thousand tweets and also the climb of Sam’s signature cover “Billionaire” in the Glee charts (from #64 to #10). Source. Geek4TV Comment: At the beginning of the season 2 I like Sam (he was cute and nerdy) but then I dislike him because he seemed shallow, but know when I am starting to like him again specially because he was going to start a relationship with Mercedes he is out of the show. I hate that he is leaving for many reasons: Mercedes was finally getting a boyfriend and now that boyfriend is out also Sam’s storyline of poverty and being homeless is an important issue. Wasn’t it the idea of bringing new Glee Club members so that when the “original” graduate we have the Glee Club still going? Isn’t it ironic that the only new Glee Club member (besides Lauren, who joined later in the season) the show got on season 2 is leaving on season 3? And last but not least, I feel really bad for Chord Overstreet who really worked hard for an entire season, even going on tour, to later find out he is out of the show. Also here is Zap2it’s Ten Reason Why The Glee Club Should Keep Sam Evans.

He now join the company of other Glee actors Matthew Morrison, Mark Salling and Naya Rivera who have released solo projects (Morrison and Salling) or have solo projects in the works (Rivera). Source
