- A Buffy reunion on Ringer. Benson, who portrayed Willow’s girlfriend Tara Maclay on Buffy, will guest star as Mary Curtis, a stripper who is also an informant for Agent Machado. Benson will reunite with Sarah Michelle Gellar, the star of The CW’s Ringer. Source
- NBC’s freshman comedy Free Agents, which averaged a paltry 1.0 rating in 18-49 and 3.3 million viewers last night, has become the secon cancellation of the 2011-2012 TV season. Source
- NBC’s Broadway-set midseason musical drama Smash will welcome two guest stars. The network has announced that Nick Jonas (Camp Rock, Jonas L.A.) will guest-star in the role of Lyle West, “a hot sitcom star who started his career as a child actor in a Broadway show” that was written and directed by two of the show’s core (and most argumentative) characters — Christian Borle’s Tom and Jack Davenport’s Derek. Two-time Tony Award winner Bernadette Peters, meanwhile, has signed on to play Leigh Conroy, a one-time “theater sensation” reduced to living out her dreams through her ingenue daughter Ivy (played by series regular Megan Hilty). - X-Men star James Marsden will appear in at least six episodes of the NBC comedy’ 30 Rock’s sixth season, which premieres at midseason. There’s no official word about his specific role. Source
- CBS has granted a full-season pick-up to its brand-new Monday-night hit, 2 Broke Girls. Source
- Lizzy Caplan (Mean Girls, Party Down, The Class) will guest star on Fox’s breakout comedy hit New Girl. She will appear in three episodes as Julia, a super-cool and highly educated gal who has a master’s degree in art history. Nick (played by Jake Johnson), upon meeting Julia at an art gallery, is instantly smitten yet intimidated by her well-cultured manner. Source
- Former Charlie’s Angels sleuth Cheryl Ladd has been tapped to play the mother of Yvonne Strahovski’s Sarah on Chuck. Source
- Maya Rudolph’s character is about to get herself a good guy on NBC’s Up All Night. Ava — the self-absorbed boss of new mom Reagan (Christina Applegate) will begin dating a man who’s been described as ” a sweet, single dad who is clean cut and attractive.” He will be played by Jason Lee, the former star of My Name is Earl, who will play Kevin on the single-camera comedy that airs Wednesdays on NBC. He’ll first appear in November. Source
