TV News: Week of November 22nd to November 28th, 2010

This post will be updated throughout the entire week with the most important news of the week. So keep checking this post for more news (from new to old).

News of the Week

  • FOX’s Glee wants self proclaimed ‘gleek’ Katie Couric to make a cameo in the show’s post-Super Bowl episode (Feb. 6). Apparently she would  share a scene with Jane Lynch’s Sue Sylvester. Source
  • Longtime Law & Order: SVU producer Neal Baer has signed a new development deal with CBS and is leaving the NBC drama after 11 years as a showrunner. He will leave SVU at the end of this season (season 11). His new three-year development and production deal with CBS Television Studios takes effect June 1, 2011. A former pediatrician, Baer, a former pediatrician, got his start on medical dramas China Beach and ER, where he worked on for seven seasons. Source
  • HBO’s True Blood is expanding its cast. Jessica Tuck has been promoted to a full-fledged series regular, Janina Gavankar (The Gates, The L Word) has joined the upcoming season as a regular. Also, Alexandra Breckenridge (Dirt, Life Unexpected) and Vedette Lim (As the World Turns) are now on board as recurring characters. Source
  • Michael J. Fox returns to The Good Wife on episode 13 called “Real Deal”, where Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) encounters Fox’s Louis Canning during another case. The episode will air early next year.
  • Gossip Girl sidelines Taylor Momsen. Despite being a series regular she has only appear in 3 episodes this season. Momsen’s character Jenny will be MIA for at least four episodes beginning with the show’s midseason finale on Dec. 6. Source
  • Eric Mabius (Ugly Betty) has been cast in an upcoming episode of NBC’s Chase. He’ll play Justin Tate, a cop-turned-fugitive who uses his law enforcement know-how to lure innocent prey. He’s also the first fugitive clever enough to elude the U.S. marshals. Mabius played Daniel Meade for four years on ABC’s Ugly Betty. Source
  • Simon Helberg who plays Howard Wolowitz in the highly popular CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory gets big salary bump. Apparently he will be making close to $125,000 per episode (he currently makes $40,000). Still no word on Kunal Nayyar deal yet. Source
  • Julia Louis-Dreyfus will star in HBO’s Comedy Pilot ‘Veep’. The star of the recently canceled The New Adventures of Old Christine will also serve as a producer, and will play the central character of the show, former Senator Selina Meyer who becomes Vice President. Source

  • Buffy is back…on the big screen. Warner Bros. plans to remake the 1992 film that paved way for the 1997 cult series, the company announced Monday. The film will not revisit the heroine’s high school days. Joss Whedon, who wrote this film’s screenplay and the creator of the TV series will not be a part of the project. The new Buffy film will hit theaters in 2012 or late 2011. Source
  • Lost’s Jorge Garcia is set to return to television in J.J. Abrams’ new series Alcatraz , a Fox pilot centered on the historic San Francisco slammer. Garcia will play an Alcatraz expert in the pilot, which will follow a group of prisoners and guards who appear in the present day.

Ratings Highlights of the Week

  • On Tuesday November 23rd, ABC won the night (18.43 million, 4.1/12) thanks to the finale of Dancing With The Stars with got an average of 24.13 million viewers and 5.3/15 share on adults 18-49 from 9 to 11pm; before this finale, ABC aired No Ordinary Family, which achieved a typical 7.03 million and a 1.8/5 share. CBS was in second place (14.56 million viewers) with its combination of NCIS (18.80 million; A18-49: 3.9 rating/11 share) at 8 pm, NCIS Los Angeles (14.86 million; A18-49:3.2/ 9) at 9pm and The Good Wife (10.02 million; A18-49 2.1/ 6) at 10 pm. On Fox, Glee lost viewers from last week, and got 10.3 million viewers and a first-place 4.0/12 among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m.; later, Raising Hope (5.94 million A18-49: 2.6/ 7) aired a new episode at 9pm. On NBC, the network aired The Biggest Loser (6.80 million, 2.4/7) from 8 to 10pm and Parenthood (4.50 million, 1.9/5) at 10pm.
  • On Sunday November 21st, NBC’s Sunday Night Football, with the New York Giants / Philadelphia Eagles match-up got an average of 21.05 million viewers and an 8.0 rating/18 share from 8:30-11 p.m, winning the entire night. Meanwhile, on ABC, the 2010 American Music Awards was a competitive but down 11.69 million viewers and a 4.3/10 among adults 18-49 from 8-11 p.m. One year earlier, the AMA got 14.24 million and 5.5/14 on Nov. 22, 2009.
