On Sunday September 18th 2011, Modern Family won the 5 Emmy categories that it was nominated during the telecast. The show won for a second consecutive year the award for Outstanding Comedy Series, plus the Dunphy parents won Outstanding Supporting Actor and Actress.

In total, the show was nominated for 17 Emmy awards. Also, all six adult cast members were nominated in the supporting categories in a comedy series. This time, Ty Burrell (Phil Dunphy) and Julie Bowen (Claire Dunphy) won the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. The show also won for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series for the episode “Halloween”, directed by Michael Allan Spiller, and for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for the episode “Caught in the Act”, written by Steve Levitan and Jeffrey Richman.
