This category seems to feature surprising winners over the years, including Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy), Cherry Jones (24), and last year’s winner and current nominee Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife).
Although her win last year was a total shock, Archie Panjabi could easily repeat thanks to a season long storyline where viewers get to learn more about her mysterious character Kalinda Sharma. Also, in her episode “Getting Off”, Alicia (Julianna Margulies) confronts Kalinda about her sleeping with her husband. We see the character in a more vulnerable way.
Margo Martindale seems to have a lot of critical support for her season performance in Justified, so she could win this category. Christine Baranski’s episode deals with her character Diane Lockhart defend her lover in a trial. Probably the most emotional performance comes from Michelle Forbes in The Killing. In her episode, which is the pilot of the show, her character deals with the disappearance of her daughter and later her murder.
