Analysis: In a category that stands for the genre of comedy and musical, Fox’s musical comedy Glee, last year’s winner, seems like the obvious choice. At the same time, the show still remains one of the most popular and talked about shows in the media. Glee is probably in the same position as Desperate Housewives, which was the last show to win this category two years in a row. However, ABC’s family comedy Modern Family took home the Emmy for best comedy over Glee, plus its critical acclaim remain strong and extremely positive in its second season, unlike Glee, and its rating have increased a lot. 30 Rock is still a great comedy, but its buzz has decreased in the last years. The Showtime shows Nurse Jackie and The Big C will probably cancel each other. And we applaud the Golden Globes for finally nominating The Big Bang Theory for best comedy. But at the end, the real battle is between two shows. If they choose popularity over quality, Glee is the winner. But let’s hope the Hollywood Foreign Press will make the right choice and give the award to the quality show: Modern Family.
